Why does my car try to start in the on position?
If the car is trying to start, the motor has to be turning over or it is not trying to start. If the key is stuck in the start position, this is a ignition lock cylinder issue and the reason the starter continues to turn the motor over.
Do you have to hold the key in the start position when starting a car?
If you hear the starter turn for long enough to start the car, you have the modern starter system. If you need to hold the key in that position until the engine fires up, you have an older generation starter where you could cause damage if turning the key all the way in while the engine is on.
What is the threshold braking technique?

However, as soon as you let go of the key, the engine turns off. If you hold the key in the start position the car continues to run indefinitely (no problems, except a tired arm/hand from holding the key.) We managed to drive it home this way. Car alway starts without any difficulty.
Can a car start and run at the same time?
Engine started and ran on the first try, set the base timing, road tested, etc. Then when we went to start the car a week or two later, it would crank but not start. Yet you would hear a brief stumble when giving up on the cranking and switching the ignition key to OFF.
What causes a car to start but not keep running?
The engine requires the right amount of air and fuel to mix together for ignition. If there is a fuel leak somewhere, then the correct amount of fuel may not make it to the combustion chamber. This might be enough to allow the engine to start, but not keep running.
How does a car engine start and run?
The start and run modes. During the start mode, this component allows full battery voltage to the secondary ignition system. This ensures that the spark is hot enough to fire a cold start air/fuel mixture. Once the engine starts, and the ignition switch moves to the run position. This device then reduces the voltage to secondary ignition.
