Why do they call it Put-in-Bay?
The French explorer and fur trader Louis Jolliet was the first white man to travel on the lake. An unidentified group of explorers sailed among the islands in July of 1784. They made charts of the islands, naming one of them Pudding Bay because the shape of the harbor (or Put-in-Bay) resembled a pudding bag.
How much does it cost to take a car to Put-in-Bay?
The Miller Ferry offer the lowest fares for any ferry service to Put-in-Bay. One way passenger tickets are $7.50 for adults, $1.50 for children aged 6-11 and kid under 6 ride for free. Vehicle tickets are $18.00 for cars, $16.00 for motorcycles and $2.00 for bicycles.
Can you take your car to Put-in-Bay?
We recommend that you do NOT bring a car to the Island. Waits to get a car on or off the Island can run as long as four hours on a busy Friday or Sunday. Most of the hotels and resorts are located in downtown Put-in-Bay and are just a short walk from the Jet Express and a pleasant golf cart ride to most attractions.

Can you walk Put-in-Bay?
Put-in-Bay is Great for Walking Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island’s main town, is only one square mile in size and everything is within easy walking distance. In fact walking is the preferred mode of transportation on the island next to golf carts.
