Why did I change the injector seals on my Mercedes?

Why did I change the injector seals on my Mercedes?

After changing the injectors the correction was down to about 1 on the two cylinders. Idle was much more stable after the change. The engine has 125 miles and that is also a good reason for changing them. It was only the copper injector seals that the OP has replaced.

Which is the correct torque for the injector seal?

The injector seal can be installed both ways, they are equal. The bolt shall be torqued to 7Nm and then torqued with 2×90 degrees. Many people swear that 7nm + 1×90 degrees is the correct. I have checked with WIS and it says 7Nm + 2×90. Also there where no problems at all to torque 2×90. Doing 1×90 might be a good recipe for new leaks.

What causes acetone to dry up in an injector?

Any acetone entering the cylinders will dry up by the air gun. As can be read in other threads, the black gum has also accumulated down the threads of the bolt holding the injector tight. When installing new bolts, they will push the gum down to the bottom and could make a hole in the casting such that water enters from the cooling channel.

What to do if you have a leak in your injector seal?

Doing 1×90 might be a good recipe for new leaks. Looking at the old seals it seems like they are “eaten” by erosion and then after some time develops a leak. I put some small thin oil on the bolt threads before doing the 7Nm. This was a quite easy job. BUT If done on a cold engine it might turn into a nightmare.

How do you seal a Mercedes diesel injector?

Once the injector is fully inserted, with the fuel connection pointing to the fuel rail, add the clamp and loose-fit the clamp bolt to hold things in place.

Can a gas cut damage an aluminium injector?

Indeed any gas-cut passages in the sealing surfaces will have most certainly also cut into the aluminium injector seat and in severe cases damaged the steel injector face that mates with the copper seal. I would recommend always at least cleaning the recessed seat of any removed injector with a special tool made for the job.
