He urges Jon to ensure that the deaths of his men were not meaningless and says that he could be a valuable spy in the wildling ranks. He then feigns anger with Jon to make him seem more sympathetic to Ygritte, and to make him look like a traitor to the Watch. Jon kills Qhorin after a fierce duel.

Qhorin urges Jon to yield once they are caught, and pretend to be a turncloak. He then makes Jon recite his vows to ensure that he never forgets that he is truly a crow, and makes Jon promise that he will not “balk whatever they ask [of him]”. [Qhorin]:“If we are taken, you must yield.”
Why did Qhorin choose Jon?
Qhorin orders Jon to yield if they are caught, in order to act as a spy. Rattleshirt’s band catches up with them, and a spearwife shows them Ebben’s head. When Jon yields as previously ordered, Ygritte vouches for him.
Did Jon Snow really want to join the wildlings?
qhorin knew that, to prove his loyalty, the wildlings would make Jon kill qhorin, so he makes sure jon does so he doesn’t get killed. Effectively, Jon joined the wildlings on orders by Qhorin halfhand in order to spy on them. He kind of had to because of the mess he got himself in by not killing Ygritte.
Why did Jon Snow betray the wildlings?
The rationale and setup for Jon’s murder in the finale were quite simple: Jon had let the wildlings come south of the Wall. The Night’s Watch men don’t like the wildlings. So they decided Jon was a “traitor,” lured him outside, and stabbed him. In short, Jon is good and his Night’s Watch brethren are evil.
Why did Jon Snow go to the wall?
After he killed his queen/lover/aunt, Jon Snow was not automatically granted the throne even though he was technically the rightful heir to the Seven Kingdoms. But poor Jon, he was actually sent to the wall as punishment for killing Daenerys Targaryen, which is technically fair since he killed a queen and all.
