Outside Air (OSA) sensor placement is critical to good HVAC performance. The OSA sensor must be mounted in the shade and never above building windows, doors, vents or dampers. Sensors should not be placed in direct sunlight as temperature readings can be altered by as much as +30%.
Where is the best place to put an outdoor temperature sensor?
Mount the sensor vertically at least 6 feet off the ground. Provide good airflow around the sensor. Direct sunlight can inflate the temperature reading, so a north-side, shaded location is best. If you have a solar panel on the sensor it will need to be charged.

2) My Cascadia has 2 ambient air temp sensors, one on the left and one on the right. Both are located behind the bumper, however, they may vary from truck to truck. Mine is a 2012, so I’m not sure if that is where they placed them for that production year or what.
Where is the correct ambient air temperature sensor?
Checked again with a different Freightliner in Grand Junction, CO, and they had to do a little bit of some digging to find the correct one. It was named Air temperature sensor, instead of ambient air temperature, lol… Plugged it in and checked it on Insite and all seems to be well, and reading the correct temp.

Are there any ambient air and Def problems?
/ Freightliner related help / Ambient air and DEF problems and solution I’ve been having ambient air temp sensor issues as of late, and along with it, DEF codes as well. When checking in Insite, it would read up in the 160* range and would work up to 200*.
