What should I do if my Tacoma brake light is not working?
If they are both working then start your Tacoma, put your foot on the brake and shift out of park. The interlock should work again. If the brake lights are still not working then use the emergency interlock release to move the shifter out of park.

If everything but the tail is working, it’s time to trace the wiring back from the socket until you find the break in the wire or a short. Before all that, take a tiny screwdriver or something to scratch with and shine up the solder bumps in the bulb housing, make sure that connection is good to the bulb. Why are the brake lights and parking lights not working?
Just touching the tube where the wires are and boom the fuse blows, and out goes the lights. The brake lights and parking lamps all run off that fuse and are working (for now) but when those frayed wires touch the tail light fuse will blow – and out go all the parking lights, front and rear. Hopefully I find the short in the daylight tomorrow.
