What kind of sound does a Yamaha Road Star make?

Yamaha designed the Road Star to be a very special motorcycle, the heart of which is it’s enormous v-twin engine.

The V-Star ha… s a large fuel tank giving plenty of distance between enforced stops. My one observation is that an aftermarket seat would be money well spent as the original becomes uncomfortable after a couple of hours.

My brother has an 05 1100 V-Star which he says has a clicking sound in the engine. He tells me it sounds like a valve tappet click only somewhat louder. He has pulled the engine and replaced everything he thinks could be causing it but it is still there. The dealer he bought it from claims it sounds completely normal so he was no help.

Other threads in the forum indicate that you should never open the throttle when starting; otherwise it will cause kickback which will damage your starter clutch. Bottom line Yamaha has a problem with their 1100 starter and starter clutches. Based on my search of the web it appears that Yamaha knows about the problem and will not step up to the plate and fix it. Last Yamaha for me. I agree with every one else, V-star 1100’s click, its normal, I have never heard anyone say different and since everyones v-star does it I’m sure I would have heard by now. Best way to fix the clicking sound is take off the weak pipes yamaha put on the v-stars and get some that are loud. Ah, drown out the clicking sound with loud pipes.
