What kind of differential fluid do you use in a Jeep Wrangler?
I prefer synthetics and so does Rockwell and Eaton in over the road trucks. Synthetics can work at elevated temperatures. I use NAPA DynaLube 75w-90w, in both axels. In yours it is probably best if you use the MOPAR, LSD additive, just to be sure, as it is recommended for the TracLoc differential.
How much oil to put in rear differential?
*75w-140 recommended in rear differentials for warm weather towing applications. For axles with the Trac-lok differential add 2 oz. of limited-slip additive. The numbers on the bottles all relate to the thickness of the oil at certain temperature thresholds. With 0 being the viscosity of water, higher numbers mean thicker/slower flowing oils.
How much fluid do you put in a Jeep Wrangler?
For axles with the Trac-lok differential add 3.4 oz. of limited-slip additive. If you like to do you own service on your TJ you will need to know the specifications for fluid changes.

I have a 2015 wrangler and see that Mopar specifies using 80w90, I find that their is alot more of 75w90 available and am curious is that weight is suitable for use. I use Lucas 75w90 in both the front and rear. This is a synthetic. The 80w90 non-synthetic is also fine to use.

Hello and welcome to just answer Jeep. The reason it leaks when it is cold is because oil seals and gaskets have a tendency to contract/shrink when temperatures drop.
What are the numbers on a Jeep Wrangler fluid bottle?
The numbers on the bottles all relate to the thickness of the oil at certain temperature thresholds. With 0 being the viscosity of water, higher numbers mean thicker/slower flowing oils. In short, a 5w-30 oil flows faster than a 10w-40 oil. The “w” in the viscosity indicates the oil’s viscosity in winter temperatures.
What kind of oil do you put in a Jeep Wrangler?
Generally, a faster flowing oil in colder temperatures is desirable because this means more internals get oil at startup faster than a slower flowing oil, reducing wear and tear on your engine. In terms of gear oil, you’ll see ratings like GL-3 and GL-4. The higher the number, the more lubricity the gear oil has, but also the more additives.
