What kind of gauges should I use on my 1999 XJ?
Lol I’m thinking may just go with all aftermarket gauges , speedo and tach…..trace out the indicator lights and do it custom….any thoughts on gauges? I have a 1999 XJ – and the instrument cluster occassionaly stops working — with mine, if you push on it towards the bottom (nearest the odo reset) it will reseat and continue working for months.
Why is my instrument cluster not working on my Jeep XJ?
Went to start the XJ last night to load it onto the trailer to move it to my buddy’s shop and it would start, run for 3-4 seconds and then shut off. The cluster has stopped working again too. I decided to hook my OBD2 scanner up figuring there was probably a code and I pulled the following: P1686, P1694, P1698.
Why are all the lights on my Jeep Cherokee not working?
The lights work (cel, seatbelt light, air bag, etc) but the actual gauges don’t work. Any ideas of where I should check? All the grounds seem to be connected, and I haven’t made any changes with wiring in regard to the cluster.

How to troubleshoot a Jeep XJ Cherokee problem?
“If the power lock system is inoperative with either front door power lock switch, test the Passenger Door Module (PDM)…If the power lock system is inoperative with only the driver side front door power lock switch, test the Driver Door Module (DDM).” I can help you troubleshoot beyond these symptoms, too.

The RKE also does not work (and have changed to fresh batteries). If the fix is just as you mentioned in your tutorial (i.e. changing the PDM or DDM) that would be great. Also, cheers for all the helpful tutorials you do mate, you’re a real champ!

Why is the CPS on my Jeep Cherokee not working?
According tothe All Data the white w/ double black trace and the purple with brown trace wires are communication wires that go back to the PCM. Again, another reason why I don’t think that the CPS is bad.

I did notice that I have a wire (white with double black trace) that is cut, but after pulling the entire harness out I don’t see another end of that wire anywhere. According tothe All Data the white w/ double black trace and the purple with brown trace wires are communication wires that go back to the PCM.
Is the gauge cluster connected to the ECU?
Have the local dealer test your ECU, it is data lines (digital 1 & 0) that send the info to the cluster from the ECU. You can’t easily by-pass the gauge cluster because the ECU interfaces with the cluster.
