What kind of clutch does a Grizzly 660 have?
Using our Yamaha Grizzly 660 CVT transmission, we wanted to show how to upgrade the stock clutch to improve performance. This totally “bone stock” 2004 Grizzly is getting larger tires and our 660 will be freshened up just a bit so we need to make sure the transmission can handle all the new power.
How do you change the clutch on a grizzly?
Pull the secondary clutch and belt off of the Grizzly. Once removed, the secondary clutch will be turned over to reveal the large spring and that’s what will be changed next. Using the 1-13/16ths socket, ever so gently loosen the spring-retaining nut approximately a HALF TURN.
What should I do if my belt slips on my ATV?
Let the bike idle for some time in neutral to let the fins on the clutch do their job. You can even rev it a little to speed up the process. The airflow from the venting system will gradually dry up the belt and clutches. In just a couple of minutes, you should be able to start riding again gently.

What’s the problem with my Yamaha Grizzly clutch?
It seems as though something is not right with my new EPI clutch kit. It was installed like a month ago and worked great; now it has a growl sound (faintly) when in neutral and when you put it in gear, it kills everytime. Help! Gunner!!! You prob know this one.

What happens when the belt slips on an ATV?
The water will greatly reduce the friction between the belt and the clutch sheaves, leaving the whole transmission pretty much useless until it gets dried up again. If this happens, and the belt starts slipping, it is important you do not just give it full throttle trying to compensate.
Why does my Yamaha Grizzly make a growl sound?
The growl sound could IMO only be caused by the primary not fully closing up thus taking pressure off of the belt. There may be interference keeping the weights from returning the the center of the clutch. If so the clutch sheave drive surface is going to get damaged if you let it go on to much longer.
