What keeps the unit from blowing cold air in the house during defrost?

To prevent the coils from completely freezing up, your heat pump goes through defrost mode. Frost on heat pump coils before going through defrost mode. And because the heat pump switched to cooling mode, it will blow cold air into your home for a few minutes.

What to do when air blows out of defroster vents?

Assuming that your actuator has failed in the most common position, blowing out of the defroster vents only, you should not have to do anything other than installing the actuator motor. No indexing of the door shafts to the cam/cog or recalibration of the actuator motors.

Why are there no defrost vents in the dash?

The inside air has been through the AC, is now cooler and drier than the outside air. If car designers lived in the south, they would have a vent selection for this condition that would use the dash vents and the defrost vents. You have floor, dash, floor/dash, defrost, and floor/defrost, but no dash/defrost.

How does a defroster fan work on a car?

When the radiator core in the heater became warm, the air was directed through hoses to the windshield and the heated air would absorb the moisture on the windshield. For cars that didn’t have the defroster provision, one could purchase a fan that mounted on the dashboard or steering column and the airflow was directed to the windshield.

Why does my car defrost more quickly than the outside air?

I always thought it was like this: Hot air can pick up more moisture than cold air. So when you defrost, you heat up the air in your car. If you recycle the (warmer) inside air, it will become hot more quickly and defrost more quickly. Once it is defrosted, only then should you let in outside air. Triedaq July 6, 2016, 2:54am #2

Why is the defrost not working on my GM Truck?

My airflow is stuck in the floor position no matter what setting is switched on the dash vent switch. I can’t get defrost or dash vent air to work. Fan settings do work. Also, there is no light coming on when the AC button and/or the recirculating buttons are pushed.
