What is RUU firmware?
By installing a firmware on your HTC Android device, or any other device for that matter, you can easily reset your device back to stock, and with that, fixing any issues with the device. HTC firmware is also called RUU — short for ROM Update Utility — and it comes it both EXE and ZIP formats.
How to Install RUU on HTC?

- Step 1: Download the firmware file in ZIP format for your HTC device and save it on PC.
- Step 2: Download ADB and Fastboot drivers.
- Step 3: Boot your HTC device into Fastboot mode (or Download mode, for newer HTC devices).
- Step 4: Connect your device to the PC using a USB cable.
How do I reinstall my HTC firmware?

- Go to Settings.
- Tap Advanced settings.
- Tap Check for updates.
- If there’s an available firmware update, tap Update.
- Wait until the firmware update is complete.
What does the Ruu do?
A ruu file is a one shot restore file with stipulations. It’s not like a rom, you don’t need a custom recovery to use one. You do need to have a locked bootloader, though. This file runs on Windows or a windows emulator and will restore your phone to stock functionality all on it’s own.
