Ullapool is not crowded, there will just be a nice mix of locals and tourists about. Midges like still, damp, foliage-risch environments. Ullapool is by the coast – and as such the wind will keep them at bay. Certainly I have wandered around Ullapool numerous times during August and never had issue with the midges.

This is a small village, not very nice, that live only with tourism so it’s not an authentic scottish village. It is even difficult to find a place where eating good, because menu tend to be “turistic” leading to bad dishes (overcooked fish, or very terrible “soup of the day”!
