What is ignition pulse generator?
initially the IGP (ignition pulse generator) was a standalone unit mounted on the outside of the camshaft on the top of the motor, using a mechanical flyweight system similar to a distributor in a truck to generate the initial pulse signal to the ignition coil and also mechanically alter the ignition timing.
What are the requirements of pulse generator?
The pulse generators can be used to generate pulses that can stimulate logic circuit. In order to be able to provide the right kinds of pulses a considerable degree of adjustment is required for the pulses in terms of length, delay, repetition rate and the like.
What is a pulse generator on ATV?
Like I said, the pulse generator is the “trigger”. Just like a gun trigger tells the gunpowder when to fire, the pulse generator tells the CDI when to fire the spark. As you can see, both the exciter coil AND the pulse generator are necessary for your ignition.
What is pulse generator for?
A pulse generator is either an electronic circuit or a piece of electronic test equipment used to generate rectangular pulses. Pulse generators are used primarily for working with digital circuits, related function generators are used primarily for analog circuits.
What frequency should a pulse generator be?
With the pulse generator according to the invention, the parameters of the output signal (i.e. pulse frequency, pulse width, pulse delay) are adjusted with high precision. The total frequency range may extend from the kHz range to several hundred MHz.
How do you test the ignition pulse generator?
Disconnect the ignition pulse generator 2P (Red) connector and conncct the tester probes to the terminal (Yellow and White/Yellow). In the same manner as at the ECM connector, measure the peak voltage and compare it to the voltage measured at the ECM connector.
Where is the pulse generator on a Honda ATV?
On many of the Honda ATV models, the ignition process is initiated by the Ignition Pulse Generator, which is located near the stator. The pulse generator is cruicial, because without it, you have no ignition.
How is a power pulse generator connected to a generator?
It can be connected to the Power Pulse Generator by a jack plug on the end of the cable from the unit. You can buy an advanced version of this signal source here. Different ignition coils or transformers will have different resonant frequencies. Using this circuit allows the Ignition coils to be tuned and driven at their resonant frequency.
What’s the difference between ignition pulse generator and CKP sensor?
ktriebol: For many years now (since ECM’s/computers) have been used, the Ignition Pulse Generator was essentially replaced by the CKP sensor. In earlier years, the IPG triggered the ignition coil which in turn sent a spark to the spark plug.
How to test the stator / ignition pulse generator ( pick up )?
Click to expand… By looking at the schematic, one would think there should be continuity. But knowing that the sensor creates AC voltage, it may not work that way. If you have a voltmeter that will get down and read low AC voltage, you can probe the two leads and swipe a metal piece or a magnet across the tip of it and create somekind of voltage.

Why is there no ignition without a pulse generator?
The pulse generator is cruicial, because without it, you have no ignition. In spite of its importance, I have never seen it mentioned in these forums. Why is that? I am hoping that Rurouni20xx will comment on this subject because if anyone has encountered the pulse generator in their experiences, he has.
