What is astm F1554?
F1554 is an ASTM specification for cast in place anchor bolts. It was established to clarify material properties for anchor rods used in concrete. The F1554 specification also qualifies two grades in addition to grade 36, grade 55 & grade 105.
Can F1554 grade 105 be galvanized?
F1554 grade 105 bolts can be galvanized even though they are relatively high in strength. The galvanizing does not affect the mechanical properties of the anchor bolt and will not cause hydrogen embrittlement.
What is a grade 55 anchor bolt?
ASTM F1544 Grade 55 is a standard material specification for straight, bent, headed, headless anchor bolts and all-thread anchor rods, made of low yield carbon steel. These Grade 55 anchors bolts or anchor rods are intended for anchoring structural supports to concrete foundations.
Is F1554 galvanized?
All three grades within the ASTM F1554 specification, Grade 36, Grade 55, and Grade 105, can be either hot-dip galvanized or mechanically galvanized. The issues of hydrogen embrittlement and/or mechanical properties being alerted during galvanizing are not an issue with any of these three grades.
Can you weld F1554?
F1554 Grade 36 is a weldable grade of anchor bolt. If F1554 Grade 55 meets the supplement 1 requirements for ASTM F1554, then it is weldable. Additionally, welding to Grade 55 anchor bolts that do not meet the weldability requirements of supplement 1 should also be avoided.
Can you weld anchor bolts?
Many high strength anchor bolt grades are not weldable. Welding should be avoided, if possible, on any grade of fastener that has been heat treated.
