What happens when you lower the rear seat?
Yesterday I lowered my rear seats to get something that was really close to the back of the trunk (and found another item I had been looking for that had fallen between trunk and seats). Well the middle seat has a retractable belt that apparently locks when the seat is lowered.
Why are the rear seats in my car stuck down?
Its not buckled, its a retractable belt hanging free, but apparently when the seat is down it locks at its position like it would if I was breaking really hard. It only needs like a couple more inches of slack before I can lift the seat but I can’t pull on it to get more than like half an inch. Is the car parked on an angled surface?
How can I get my 2nd row seat to go down?
This release is ALMOST seat back down (about 3 inches above the seat bottom). As the seat back lowers, apply constant lift on the rear latch, and it will release as the seat back lowers. Hard-won knowledge – I think I invented some bad words in the process.
Is there a way to raise the back of the car?
If the seat back could be raised, the mechanism might be able to release the belt; but the belt is already so tight that raising the seatback is impossible. A temporary fix is to gain access from the trunk side of the underseat and, with a T50 Torx socket, remove the bolt holding the belt to the floor.
Why are front seat backs collapsing in cars?
Basically, this is an issue of seat strength. In some rear-end crashes, especially high-speed ones, front vehicle seats have been found to collapse backward.
What to do if your 2nd row seat wont go down?
Pull the lever back off and slip the release strap back into the slot and make sure it is not twisted or kinked. Snap the housing back together, put the lever back on, and screw it in. Test it and it should work fine. Hope this helps, You can’t post conmments that contain an email address. I have had this problem, and I am having it again.
When to switch to a forward facing car seat?
When to switch to a forward-facing car seat: It’s about weight and height, not age. Look at the height and weight limits on your infant car seat. Rear-facing-only seats typically range from 26 to 36 inches and 22 to 35 pounds. Convertible car seats tend to have higher limits.
Are there any fatalities due to seat backs collapsing?
There have been fatalities due to the front seat collapsing onto a rear passenger. Because of reporting procedures, it’s hard to get an exact number on the amount of fatalities caused by collapsing seat backs. One expert interviewed by CBS news says that seat backs collapse (though not necessarily fatally) every day.
What to do if your rear seat is stuck?
A temporary fix is to gain access from the trunk side of the underseat and, with a T50 Torx socket, remove the bolt holding the belt to the floor. Once the belt is slack, you can raise the seatback to it normal position, reattaching the belt bracket in its original place.
Why are the rear seats on my 2013 MKZ stuck down?
I still had the problem on my 2013 MKZ. I believe the problem is an unfortunate omission in the engineering department. When the rear seat back is lowered, the same mechanism that locks the belt on hard deceleration falls and locks the seatbelt in its retracted position, and the belt tension prevents the seatback from being raised.
Why is the middle seat in my car stuck?
Well the middle seat has a retractable belt that apparently locks when the seat is lowered. Its apparently supposed to unlock as I try to raise it up and expand letting the seat lock back to the trunk latch. But its just staying locked.
How do you remove the back seat on a 2005 F150?
Locate the lever on the side of the seat. Pull the lever, allowing the seatback to tilt forward to make extra room to work. Unbolt the 10 bolts behind the seat with a socket wrench. There are three bolts on the right side of the seat. There are three on the left and four bolts along the length of the seat.

How to fold the back seat down in a VW?
Try pulling up the lower seat from the back up as you push the top of the seat when operating the lever. Hope that makes sense. Mine loosened up after a fee times Think you need to lift the front of the seat base up. It’s very tight with the middle row of seats.
Is there a way to fold the seat back flat?
Many thanks. No, there is a fabric strap that stops that happening. Probably because the drawer is underneath the seat squab. BTW, when you fold down the seatback flat you will need to release the head rests so that they fold back and down into the rear storage space to enable the seatback to go completely flat.
What kind of car has flat back seats?
Pontiac vibe. I’m 6’3″ and sleep comfortably in flat back after folding down the rear and passenger seats with blankets and pillows. Many road trips in that car, no issues. Mines a 2003. Wow, that’s incredible!
