What happens if you put gas in a TDI?
Gasoline’s lack of lubrication is to blame for much of the internal damage that occurs within injection pumps and injectors when gas is introduced into a diesel’s fuel system. Most of the carnage takes place in the injection system, which on today’s high-dollar diesel engines can run you upwards of $10,000.
Will 2 gallons of diesel hurt a gas engine?
Since diesel fuel is thicker and denser than gasoline, the fuel pump will struggle to move the diesel/gasoline mixture through the system. Instead, it will clog up the fuel filter. And whatever amount of diesel that then makes its way to the engine will clog the fuel injectors, making them inoperable.
Can you mix gasoline with diesel fuel?
Diesel is also a lubricant, while gasoline is not. If gasoline makes its way into a diesel engine, it can jam the fuel pumps and the injectors. Mixing in a little amount of gasoline with diesel is a bad idea, but might not be catastrophic. A large amount of gasoline will cause significant damage to a diesel engine.
