What does elevated HE4 mean?
Significantly elevated concentrations of HE4 are frequently present in the blood of a woman who has epithelial ovarian cancer. When HE4 is increased, the HE4 test may be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment and/or for recurrence or progression of the cancer.
Is HE4 and CA125 the same?
HE4 was more sensitive in detecting early stages of ovarian cancer and more specific. HE4 improves the utility of CA125 as a tumor marker in ovarian cancer, and using both markers simultaneously increases the tumor marker sensitivity.
How accurate is the HE4 test?
Originally, nine potential biomarkers were evaluated, of which HE4 was the most effective in detecting ovarian cancer. Does CA125 detect endometrial cancer?
As individual tumor marker, serum CA 125 has the ability to detect endometrial cancer in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding.
Is CA125 high in endometriosis?
Plasma concentrations of CA125 are markedly elevated in women with cystic ovarian endometriosis and/or deeply infiltrating endometriosis, but not, or only slightly, in the luteal phase of women with minimal or mild endometriosis.
How is CA 125 done?
For a CA 125 test, a member of your health care team takes a sample of blood by inserting a needle into a vein, usually in your hand or arm. The blood sample is sent to a lab for analysis. You can return to your usual activities immediately.
Can endometriosis cause elevated CA 125?
CA-125 levels have been found to be significantly higher in women with moderate or severe endometriosis (6). It was reported that preoperative serum CA-125 level could be used as an important predictor for patients with endometrial conditions.
