What does code P2189 mean?
System Too Lean at Idle
OBD-II Code P2189 is defined as a System Too Lean at Idle. The engine control module (PCM) uses multiple sensors to determine the required amount of fuel needed to keep the engine running efficiently at idle. If the PCM cannot achieve the desired balance between fuel and air, it will set code P2189.
What is idle bank2?
SPECIAL NOTES: On engines with two banks of cylinders, “Bank 1” refers to the bank of cylinders that contains cylinder #1, while “Bank 2” refers to the bank of cylinders that does not contain cylinder #1. Note that diesel engines run with excess air at idle, and are therefore not affected by this code.
What does the p2187 OBD-II fault code mean?
The P2187 OBD-II fault code means the vehicle’s on-board computer has detected a lean fuel mixture at an idle in either Bank 1 or Bank 2 (the side of the engine with the corresponding number on the cylinder, if applicable). A lean fuel mixture means there is an excess of air and a shortage of fuel.

Is the code p2189 the same as Bank 2?
Code P2189 is the same code but for Bank #2. There is a laundry list of components that could cause this scenario. For the most part the diagnostic procedure is not difficult — just time consuming, unless it is one of the first items checked.
Why is my p2189 code leaking into the intake manifold?
Additional codes to pinpoint cause of original P2189 code Air leaking into the intake manifold downstream from the Mass Airflow sensor due to the manifold itself, vacuum hoses off or cracked, leak MAP sensor, Leak at turbo bypass or it’s stuck open, power brake booster hose, or a leak in the EVAP system hoses. Leaks in the exhaust system
What does the trouble code p2189 stand for?
Trouble code P2189 indicates that the ECM has determined that there is too much air and too little fuel present in the air-fuel ratio during engine idle. This code indicates that during the last two drive cycles, the ECM has observed a lean air-fuel ratio condition on bank 2 of the engine.
