What is the normal operating temperature be for a 2004 Cherokee 4.7. Would that also about 210 ? This weekend I will be replacing the Thermostat, thermostat sensor, radiator cap and doing a radiator flush. hopefully this will resolve the over heating issue. I have been noticing my clutch fan as been coming on more often.

My engine currently reads about 210* (jeep says this is correct)and I have the factory 195* t-stat (I understand that the engine ususally operates about 10-15* above t-stat rating). I know that I would like the cooler temp on the engine, but will the performance be impacted (fuel/air mixture)? What will happen this winter? Will it run too rich?

Think about it… if the engine is at 210 degrees (or hotter, whatever), both a 180 and 195 degree thermostat will be fully open. There will be NO difference. On a cold day, yes an engine may run cooler with a 180 degree thermostat. Personally i changed mine out to a 180 the first week after i bought the jeep.
