All JCSP statements have been written by practising teachers. A statement is a general description of a particular area of knowledge, ability or skill. Essentially a statement affirms that a student knows, understands or can do something. Each statement is defined or described by a series of learning targets.

The Junior Certificate School Programme aims to provide a curriculum framework that assists schools and teachers in making the Junior Certificate more accessible to those young people who may leave school without formal qualifications.

A short course is designed for approximately 100 hours of student engagement and provides opportunities for schools to broaden the range of educational experiences they offer in Junior Cycle. Other agencies or groups can also develop short courses.
