Should I upgrade my rods?
Upgrading to a stronger connecting rod will let you more effectively handle an increase in power load on your engine. Most stock engines will incorporate a powder metal rod. If you are looking to add torque and horsepower to your engine, this type will not hold up to the increase in spins at higher RPMs.
How do you know if your car has thrown a rod?
Rod knock is identified by a repetitive rattling, knocking sound coming from the engine. The noise becomes pronounced the higher the rpm. If it only happens when you start the car then it could be a problem with the main bearing rather than the rod bearings.
What do upgraded Pistons do?
The high silicon content of cast pistons makes them brittle compared to forged pistons. It is true that forged pistons are heavier than cast pistons, but this is counteracted by the ability to provide a high compression ratio inside the engine, enabling the engine to rev higher and produce more power.
What happens if you throw a rod through a block?
If you drive the engine long enough with a spun bearing, you can expect sooner or later to cause catastrophic damage to the engine with a rod being thrown through the side of the block, at which point you’ll be in for much worse than a rebuild, but a replacement (plus, there’ll be a huge mess to clean up).
Why does the rod knock on my car not go away?
It will not go away as the engine gets warmer. If it does, it is probably something like an exhaust leak which closes itself as the engine manifolds get warm.
Why does a rod knock sound worse when the car is warmed up?

It will not go away as the engine gets warmer. If it does, it is probably something like an exhaust leak which closes itself as the engine manifolds get warm.
Do you need to upgrade the tie rod on a Jeep XJ?
The tie rod is low and vulnerable to rocks, which is why many upgrades make the tie rod super thick. With crossover steering you get better angles and your tie rod is up and out of the way. But it’s usually more work and requires some drilling or light fabrication. If you’re lifting your XJ over 4-6″ you should look into crossover steering.
What causes a thrown rod in a car?

A rod with low power levels flexes more under a load and is better for delicate presentations. What is fly rod action? Fly rod action, on the other hand, is how a fly rod flexes when cast.
