Is Holley high RAM worth it?
The High Ram is good for engines turning high rpms. It makes great peak power but its average power through the rpm range falls short of other intake manifolds. When considering an intake for a street car you really want to look at average power. That is where a lot of people go wrong when looking at intakes.
How much HP does a Holley high RAM add?
The Holley Hi-Ram intake manifold produced a better peak power rating of 946 rwhp, gaining 27 rear-wheel horsepower at the peak, but the real eye-opening numbers are in the midrange. At one point, the Hi-Ram bettered the old box intake setup by a whopping 62 rear-wheel horsepower!
What does a high ram intake do?
A ram-air intake is any intake design which uses the dynamic air pressure created by vehicle motion to increase the static air pressure inside of the intake manifold on an internal combustion engine, thus allowing a greater massflow through the engine and hence increasing engine power.
What does the Holley intake do?
Internally, the intake base has cast-in smooth inlets for each port to guide the incoming air into the cylinder head. Holley designed these to minimize turbulence, straighten out the incoming air, and provide a strong signal to the plenum.
Where are Holley intakes made?
Among the company’s owned divisions are brand names MSD Performance, Flowmaster, Hurst, Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS), Weiand, Flowtech, Earl’s Performance Plumbing, Hooker Headers, Demon Carburetion, Racepak, Superchips, Diablosport, Edge Products, Accel Ignition, Quick Time, Hays Clutches, Mr.
How much horsepower does ram air add?
It makes such a big difference, in fact, that the simple process of redirecting the filter to draw cooler air is good for a horsepower gain of about 5 to 20 ponies in most cars. It might even improve your fuel efficiency, and it’ll probably make your engine sound better, too.
How tall is a Holley high RAM?
13.34”
Overall Height: 13.34” (w/ EFI Top – 95mm or 105mm) – See Drawing. A-B Height: 12.10” (w/ Carb Style Top – 2 x 4150 or 2 x 4500) – See Drawing. Height at Plenum Flange: 9.44” Port Size: 2.06” High x 1.53” Wide.
Is a high rise intake better?
High rise intakes on the other hand are better at building horsepower in the upper RPM range and typically have larger and longer intake runners. The power band of a high rise usually starts around 2700 to 3000 rpms and they can be capable of making power all the way through 7000 to even 8000 rpms.
What was the goal for the Holley Hi Ram?
The goal was to retain the Holley Hi-Ram intake runners construction and design, but to enlarge the plenum, and build a new sheet metal top for the Hi-Ram. Essentially, building the ultimate Hi-Ram. Since we’re planning on adding a ProCharger F-1X to our engine combination shortly, we told Wilson that we needed to be able to make up to 1,600 hp.
What kind of intake manifold does Holley use?
The Holley Hi-Ram (see our article here) is an outstanding intake manifold that’s a tunnel ram-type intake for the LSX engine. However, because the Hi-Ram is built for everything from hot street applications (500 hp) to entry-level race engines, it simply can’t be all things to all people.
Is the plenum welded to the Holley Ram runners?
The plenum is not yet welded to the runners at this point. (Left) The Holley-Hi Ram runners were welded to the Wilson sheet metal base and, to make it look good, Wilson polished all of the welds flush and then bead-blasted the intake. This helps make the lower look uniform and aesthetically pleasing.
How big are the Holley runners on a LSX?
Wilson also shortened the Holley runners about 3/4-inch because of the 8,500 rpm range of our LSX intake. Luckily for us, we had the phone number of our pals at Wilson Manifolds, and specialty sales manager and manifold expert Dave Secunda.
