Is Ecosia safe and legit?
Can we trust that Ecosia actually plant trees? Whilst on the surface these numbers seem pretty incredible, Ecosia are not a public company, which means they currently aren’t audited by independent bodies. So to a limited extent, we do have to trust what they state on their website.

In late 2009, the idea for Ecosia.org was born and the tree planting search engine launched in December of that year. It is a Berlin-based social business owned by Christian Kroll and Tim Schumacher.

Which search engine does Ecosia use?
Bing’s
We use Bing’s search technology, enhanced with Ecosia’s own algorithms. Bing is Microsoft’s own search and it was launched in June 2009, so just a few months before Ecosia was founded! But that’s a different story. Bing is the second largest search engine in the US, after Google.
