How to wire lithium batteries in parallel or series?
For example if you connect two of our 12 Volt, 10 Ah batteries in series you will create one battery that has 24 Volts and 10 Amp-hours. Since many electric motors in kayaks, bicycles, and scooters run on 24 volts this is a common way of wiring batteries.
What are the 8 wires on this rechargeable lithium-ion battery?
I am trying to replace a rechargeable lithium ion battery with one that has a longer lifespan when charged. The one I have has 8 wires, but every one I find has 2. It has 3 red, 3 black, 1 yellow, and 1 white. Can I replace it with something like this 6000mAh one, from SparkFun? https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8484
What’s the best way to wire up lithium batteries?
The easiest way to do this is to simply wire up two (or more) models of the same battery (like our Dakota Lithium 12V 10Ah batteries). Things can get tricky if you’re wiring up batteries that have different battery management system electronics in them, and the permutations for what can happen are fairly wide.
What happens if a lithium battery is over charged?
A cell can be permanently damaged if over-charged (over-voltage) or over-discharged (drained) just one time. The BMS has circuitry to block charging if the voltage exceeds 15.5 volts (or if any cell’s voltage exceeds 3.9V).
The easiest way to do this is to simply wire up two (or more) models of the same battery (like our Dakota Lithium 12V 10Ah batteries). Can you wire lithium batteries in parallel or series?
In both cases, adding more Dakota Lithium batteries in series or parallel will simply add on an additional 12V or 10Ah, respectively. Pretty simple, right? Totally not black magic! All that being said, it behooves us to mention here that there are 3 considerations that need to be taken into account before wiring batteries up in series or parallel:
What kind of lithium converter does progressive dynamics use?
Present RV has a Progressive Dynamics PD9200 Series Converter/Charger PRESENT LEAD/ACID MODEL # LITHIUM REPLACEMENT MODEL # PD9245C PD9145ALV (45-AMPS) PD9260C PD9160ALV (60-AMPS) PD9270 PD9170ALV (70-AMPS) PD9280 PD9180ALV (80-AMPS)
Can a lead acid converter be replaced with a lithium Charger?
Do not replace your present Lead/Acid Converter/Charger or Converter/Charger Section with a Lithium Model with an Amp rating higher than the D.C Amp output rating of your present unit as your RV wiring is may not be capable of safely handling this extra current!
