How to replace a drive shaft u-joint?
I am having a hard time finding the part numbers..any help or tips to replacing…are they called jack shaft U-joints? 1999 E320 4Matic wagon..thanks Bill the wagon has 184k miles..replace whole shaft? Just u-Joints? Register for the EPC (link in the stickies, it’s free) and then you can plug in your VIN and look up parts until your eyes cross.

The original ujoint is formed on the shaft with a high temp and pressure press molding the sheet alloy in place its a mm or so thick and once it wears out its not made to be replaced as a small part but a whole new shaft.

just did this. the joint is replaced as a whole unit on the shaft by mercedes. You can however take it in to a local driveline shop and they will cut the existing pressed u joint off the end of the shaft and weld in a new replaceable joint and re-balance the shaft. costs about $300 versus the 400 for the new mercedes shaft.
