How to fix a rattling heat shield-YouTube?
Here is a short video showing you one way to fix a rattling heat shield. Remember jack your car up safely and secure it on stands. Also if you are not sure what you are drilling into…DON’T DRILL! Seek professional help. Sure would be a shame to ruin a wiring harness, or drill through your gas tank. Any how, hope this gives you an idea to use.
When do I need to replace my heat shield?
You will notice it’s time to replace the heat shields (or heat plates, vaporiser bars, flavorizer bars) when they are rusting excessively or have areas that have rusted through, leaving holes. In this case, we could bend the heat shield in half, it was so rusted.
What should I use to replace the heat shield on my Grill?
You can just rest the heat shield on the casting of the grill. It is still far enough away from the burner that no flames will touch it. We used a stainless steel plate to replace the original porcelain coated plate. The stainless steel will long outlast the original. Look at that pretty, shiny new stainless steel part! Do you spray cooking oil on the heat shield?
Similarly, I spray a little cooking oil on the heat shield (that functions as the oil drip tray) before I put down Al foil. It discourages rust and helps the foil stick so you can smoothe it out. Again, I don’t consider a grease layer a fire hazard, just standing/accumulated grease.

Sorry but I don’t have a clear understanding of just what’s getting hot and what sort of “cover” we’re discussing nor what “intake” you mean.
