How does low pressure fuel pump work on sprinter?
Make sure you have not damaged any O-ring seals on the click-on fuel unions and that are connected correctly. The Sprinter fired up on the second pull and ran wonderfully, I sat with my foot on the throttle, holding revs steady at about 3500rpm – at about 30 seconds into the test the revs dropped and the whole pulsing/revving cycle began again.
Can a Mercedes Sprinter go above 70 mph?
Low Pressure Fuel Pump – Mercedes Sprinter Surging Engine – Will not go above 70mph. Sure enough if you maintained a constant 3500rpm with the vehicle stationary, after about 30 seconds the revs began to drop to about 2000rpm and immediately pulled back up to circa 3000rpm, all repeating in a one or two second cycle.
Why does my Mercedes Sprinter have low pressure?
Although not completely faulty, the sensor must have been signalling incorrect pressure readings back to the ECU that was cutting the engine, when the LP pressure measurement reached its switching threshold, the engine picked up again and the whole vicious circle ensued.
Can a dry pump be replaced on a sprinter?
The replacement pump can be fitted in an exact reversal of dismantling, along with the vacuum pump and finally the servo vacuum and turbo hoses. Since you have probably lost some fuel in the lines, possibly you have fitted a new dry-pump be prepared for a delayed start of the engine. Usually it fires immediately on turning the key then dies.
Where is the fuel pump located on a Mercedes?
With the pump fitted, looking from the front into the engine bay, the left hand side pump hose, is the one that goes all the way round to the right hand side of the block. Thanks Matt, I used trial and error and on change around it worked. Thanks for your exceptional repair description, as mine is working 100% and saved me a fortune.
How do you remove a high pressure fuel pump?
Unplug the plug on the pump and under the brass/copper high pressure pipe using a 14mm spanner. Now take off the pump using a E10 female torx. There are three bolts, two at the top and one at the bottom. Once off wiggle it a little bit and it should come out. Then undo the little bracket that holds the feed and return pipes on (label them!).

Where can I get a high pressure fuel pump?
I got mine from Swadlincote Diesel 01283 217951 as they are an approved bosch stockist and had the bits on the shelf. To get at the high pressure fuel pump, you need to remove the air filter box, engine mount, intercooler pipe and possibly the fuel bracket and mount plate.
How do you remove a fuel pump spring?
Turn the pump around and look down the inlet and outlet ports and you will see a circlip with another little port collar thingy, poke that downwards and it will come out inside the pump where the spring came from. Then remove the circlip, put those four parts to one side safely.
