How does a torque limiting fan clutch work?
A torque-limiting fan clutch reacts to engine speed. A centrifugal valve opens to allow the flow of heavy silicone fluid, locking the fan blades to the pulley. At idle and low engine speeds, this fan clutch is fully engaged, gradually disengaging as engine speed increases.
How does a thermal fan clutch work on a car?
When the fan clutch engages, it spins up greatly, increasing air flow through the radiator and over the engine. A thermal fan clutch reacts to temperature of the air rushing over it from the radiator. As the radiator heats up, the air passing through it also heats up.
Why are electric fans used in Duramax engines?
Normal electric fans cannot move enough air through the radiator, intercooler, A/C condenser, and transmission cooler to meet the cooling demands of the Duramax engines. Also, unlike other competitor’s fan shrouds, this aluminum fan shroud covers more surface area to help keep things running cool.
What should I do if my fan clutch is on the outs?
Pay attention to changes in air temperature. One of the most common symptoms of a fan clutch on the outs is an inability to properly cool the air circulating through the vehicle. Switch on the A/C and turn it down to the coldest setting.

What happens if your fan clutch goes bad?
A properly-functioning fan clutch is critical to engine reliability, as it works to maintain a safe temperature range. A failing fan clutch could leave you stranded with expensive repair bills, so pay attention to these symptoms.
How many wires are in a 09 Van fan clutch?
Some of the 6.5 guys have been using the 09 van fan and evc fan clutch on there rigs as they’re notorious for overheating. 3 wires are for the hall effect speed sensor and 2 go to the heating element in the evc. They are not an instant on design.
Can a 20 wt bulb overload the ECM?
DO NOT USE A 20WATT BULB AS IT MAY OVERLOAD THE ECM OUTPUT, USE A 5WATT BULB. Disconnect the solenoid and fit the wires to the bulb. With the key on the bulb should be on bright. One end of the bulb will have 12v on it. The other end will be close to 0v (less than 1v). I do test of power circuit with 20 wt bulb.
