the best way is usually to completely remove the carpets and underlay and hang them to dry in a warm place, whilst its all out remove any excess water from the vehicle and cut some criss-cross holes in the rubber bungs in the bottom of the shell to allow any water left to escape.

After an hour of pouring water to locate the leak we think its In the engine near the gasket, there is a black tube that has a split which was allowing water to drip behind the pedals. Forgot to mention I’d checked that, lifted rubber and all is very clean around the screen. The water seems to be finding its lowest point i.e bottom left of footwell nearest the drivers seat, carpet elsewhere by pedals, bonnet release seems dry. The underdash and fusebox area is bone dry too.
