- Use some carb cleaner to get the most of the sludge out of the cap.
- Fill up a pot with water and Dawn dish detergent, get it plenty soapy.
- Get some Dawn into the breather cap, and place it in the pot of water.
- Put it on the stove, turn the burner on very low, and let it simmer a few hours.
How do you clean breather valves?
A breather filter is sometimes fitted inside one of the shaped pipes. After cleaning the filter in paraffin, dry it thoroughly with blasts of air from a foot pump. Clean the breather filter by immersing it fully in paraffin. Allow it to soak for some time to dissolve any oil and sludge inside.

What kind of valve cover do you need for a breather system?
You must use a Bolt on valve cover set like EMPI part 00-9152-0. Proper installation is important! The box needs to be mounted HIGHER than your fan shroud so oil can properly drain back to the breather barb on the oil filler. Suggest a billet filler extension if you do not already have one so you can position the hose barb on TOP using an O-ring.
