How do you break in a new Harley Davidson motorcycle?
Break-In Riding Procedure
- During the first 50 miles of riding, keep the engine speed below 3,000 RPM (5,000 RPM for VRSC™) in any gear.
- Up to 500 miles, vary the engine speed and avoid operating at any speed for long periods.
- Drive slowly and avoid fast starts at wide-open throttle until the engine has warmed up.
Can you push start a newer Harley?
Older carbureted Harleys can usually be bump started so long as the problem is that the battery has lost its charge. As for newer fuel-injected bikes, they’ll need at least 9 volts in order to run the fuel system – otherwise, you can push them all you want and they still won’t start.
What RPM should I run my Harley at?
Stock Harleys are factory set to run at 14.7:1 ratio, that is too lean for an air cooled engine. Your engine will live a very happy life if you run it in the 3000 to 4000 rpm range.
Why does my Harley Davidson cough at idle?
Came back, resprayed WD and found no change in idle so I stand here thinking the intake seals are not/no longer leaking. Put the .48 back in, re-rode to test and it’s back to the occasional cough. Does it only after idling at a light for a minute or so and blipping the throttle to take off.
Why does my Harley Davidson make a hard clicking sound?
Clicks when trying to start does not engage. I have a Harley-Davidson 1999 sportster 1200. I get a hard fast clicking sound when trying to start. I Have put the battery on a charger and let it charge overnight. It still does the same thing. Is this a bad battery?
What kind of idle mixture does a Harley Davidson use?
I went to the 48 idle jet and raised the needle 1 washer and am running a 195 main with 95″ and cams and exhaust. Getting 40 mpg and have the idle mixture turned out 3 turns. It runs good and NO coughs at any rpm and no rich smell at the pipe at idle. The further out you turn out the idle mixture the leaner it gets.
