Don’t pull it apart until you do a compression test!! If you don’t have/can’t afford a gauge then at least turn the ignition off, pull the plugs, hold your thumb over the plug hole and have someone pull it over. It should pop the thumb pretty good.

OK, the problem can be in any of the switches. Hook your ohm meter to that wire on the harness side. Test each switch on and off to see where the problem is. Open and close the throttle as well. If the cable is out of adjustment, it will trigger it, or if it’s worn out.

I have a 1994 Polaris Indy Fan cooled with Mikuni Carbs. I have just gone through the snowmobile took the carbs off cleaned them and replaced all the fuel lines. The issue I am having now is when the sled sits over night and the motor is cold I can pull for about an hour before I can get the sled running.

Unplug the temp sensor and turn the key on without starting the engine. The fan should run because it defaults to “ON” when there is no reading from the sensor. Wiring is almost always the problem. Have you tried pulling apart the connectors and making sure they are clean and making good contact? Even under the relays (a real pain)?

Our 2009 Polaris 550 xp Sportsman has started to overheat the fan doesn’t start any more. I applied 12 volts to cooling fan and it works fine. Replaced temperature sensor both old and new the red light would come on. Switched relay with one of others same result.
