Does the throttle body need to be replaced?
The throttle body plays a large role in controlling the fuel and air mixture in your engine. The proper mixture needs to be achieved in order for your engine to run smoothly and properly. Once this part fails, it needs replacing rather than repairing.
Can a bad throttle body mess up your engine?
Too much air or too little air can make your engine run lean. When the throttle body is dirty, clogged up or malfunctioning this stops the flow of air into the engine, which not only causes problems with performance, but can cause issues with unburned fuel passing through the exhaust system.
What causes a throttle body to go bad?
One of the main causes of a malfunctioning throttle body is internal contamination. This causes ‘false air’ to be sucked in, so that the total amount of air sucked in does not correspond to the position of the throttle valve. An incorrectly adjusted throttle position sensor can also cause an engine to run badly.
Is it better to clean or replace a throttle body?
While throttle-body cleaning is good preventative car maintenance, it should also help engine drivability. In fact, if you’ve noticed a rough idle, stumbling initial acceleration or even stalling – all when the engine is fully warmed up – a dirty throttle body could be the culprit.
How much does it cost to fix a throttle control?
The average cost for throttle body replacement is between $489 and $593. Labor costs are estimated between $85 and $108 while parts are priced between $403 and $485. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your specific vehicle or unique location. Related repairs may also be needed.
Can you clean the throttle body without removing it?
You don’t need to remove a throttle body to clean it. If you have a DBW throttle body, DO NOT MOVE THE THROTTLE PLATE MANUALLY TO CLEAN IT, especially with the key in the ON position. This will confuse the computer and it will have to be reset in order for the engine to start and run again.

Hello, a faulty electronic throttle body could cause multiple concerns — but I would say the most common would be a lack of throttle response — not a lack of engine running.
