Every part of the British Army has a REME detachment within it allowing opportunity for service around the world from Belize, to Canada, to Cyprus, to Kenya. As a REME Officer you will lead highly skilled and qualified tradesmen both on operations and in barracks. They could be repairing Light Guns, recovering Challenger 2 Tanks, maintaining Apache helicopters or supporting the Special Forces.

When did REME Phase 2 start in the Army?
In 1949, it was decided that “REME Phase II” should be implemented. This decision was published in Army Council Instruction 110 of 1949, and the necessary reorganisation was carried out in the various arms and services in three stages between July 1951 and January 1952.
How many REME Battalions are there in the Army?
In line with the Army 2020 review, there are seven Regular, two Training and six Army Reserve battalions within REME. Alongside these major units, all battalion sized units within the army have a workshop integrated, made up of REME soldiers, called a Light Aid Detachment (LAD).
