Was Lewes Castle attacked?
In 1381, during the Peasants Revolt, the castle was attacked by a mob who broke inside and stole casks of wine, as well as destroyed several documents. By the 17th century, Lewes Castle was quickly becoming nothing more than a ruin. Later in the 18th and 19th centuries, some restoration work was conducted.
