Do you need to swap engines on a Subaru Forester?
Swapping may have made sense pre-2002, before we had any of Subaru’s turbo cars stateside. These days they are so cheap and readily available that there really is no need to reinvent the wheel, especially for a daily driver. Now for those who enjoy wrenching on a project car and don’t mind dealing with issues and downtime, swap away!
Are there any 2.5L Forester X engine mods?
2.5L Forester X engine mods?? I see most of the folks here own XT’s but I was wondering if there were any engine mods (cold air intake etc) that could also work (and be worth doing) for the plain jane 2.5L? Use the search fuction. There is a “stickey” in the N/A forum:

To do this swap the steps are as as “simple” as, pull the engine from the chassis, swap the cross member, put the new engine in, hook up power steering, AC, exhaust, and radiator. Assuming the wiring harness is sent to us, it would just plug back into the chassis and the new engine and the car is done.

There are plenty of swaps on this forum! Mikedrives01 has an EJ257 swapped in his SF I’m sure the SG foresters would be easier to swap since the XT is in the US but it would be the 255 block in those. I’m sure it’d be easier to just start with an XT but that’s no fun!

If you have to ask, then an engine swap is probably not for you… it makes much more sense to sell the 03 and buy an 04 XT. You’ll have a more dependable car that came boosted from the factory.
