Do you need to replace the Pistons on a Polaris 800?
If you choose to install new Pistons ( if the rings are bad it needs Pistons because the skirts are woren ) if the cylinder finish took out the rings then it’s wearing material off the skirt creating to much clearance. I know it seems wrong but it’s not….convention old fashion cast iron bore thinking does not apply.
Why are my Polaris Rings losing their life early?
Rings losing their life early is simply caused by a cylinder finish that to aggressive….. If you choose to install new Pistons ( if the rings are bad it needs Pistons because the skirts are woren ) if the cylinder finish took out the rings then it’s wearing material off the skirt creating to much clearance.
Is the lower cylinder skirt of Polaris prone to cracking?
2) The 2008-2009 CFI-4 engines had a VERY thin lower cylinder skirt that was prone to cracking especially once the OEM piston gets lose in the bore. In 2010 Polaris thickened up this skirt. Polaris thickened up the skirt, again, for 2011-12 CFI-2 Engines. ALL of the 2008-2012 800 Engines were prone to lower cylinder skirt cracking!
Which is better the 800 piston or the 800 head?
However, the piston design is not much better than the 800 Piston. It suffers from skirt collapse and it is also WAY too HEAVY! There are some massive gains to be had by drastically altering the piston design. We have spent the time and developed a Piston Kit and a Drop In Piston/Head kit for the 600 Twin..
What are the Pistons and rings on a Polaris 800?
Includes pistons, rings, circlips, wrist pins, cylinder bolts, cylinder spacer, longer alignment pins, & 2 base gaskets. For all Polaris 800 CFI & CFI HO motors. The relatively short rods and pistons have been the cause of the short life of the stock pistons and rings.
Why are the Pistons on my Polaris 800 CFI so short?
For all Polaris 800 CFI & CFI HO motors. The relatively short rods and pistons have been the cause of the short life of the stock pistons and rings. Most machines will lose 20-30 lbs of compression after just 1500 miles of riding which causes a loss in performance.
Which is the key to the Polaris durability kit?
The key to this kit is the taller pistons we developed which allow less piston rock. This reduces the stress on the piston and rings dramatically. We also extended piston life by slightly changing the ring location, adding lubrication holes on all four corners of the piston, and Teflon coated the skirts.
When to replace the Pistons on a Polaris sled?
If performance is down ( FIRST AND FOREMOST ) Make sure your drive clutch is in good condition, your belt is in good condition, and the driven clutch is adjusted so the sled has the correct belt deflection. If you get your a$$ handed to you by another sled on the same make & model your first move should NOT be replacing the Pistons…..
