Do you have to change engine and transmission at the same time?
No. You do not. They are attached to one another but not dependent on each other in that way. If you need a transmission or want to replace it, the easiest time to do it would be when replacing an engine, assuming you were doing that anyway, but they are in no way required to be changed at the same time.
Can a transmission be swapped with an engine swap?
This transmission will be great with your swap since it is what these motors were meant to work with. Make sure that if you buy it separate from the engine that you know for sure that you have an automatic wiring harness.
When do I need to rebuild my transmission?
If you are installing a new engine or rebuilding your engine because it is worn out from excessive miles, then you might want to consider rebuilding your transmission at the same time.
Do you need to change transmission mounts for a swap?

How do you mate an engine to a transmission?
Detroit Muscle co-host, Marc Christ, takes you through how to mate an engine with a transmission. First, start with your release bearing. Attach the release bearing to the clutch fork. Do you have to swap the transmission if you swap an engine?
Generally speaking, the more different the engine that you are swapping, the more likely you will need to swap the transmission as well. A good example of this would be a GM LS swap into pretty much any smaller RWD car (ie 240SX, Miata, S2000, RX7, etc). None of these transmissions will bolt directly to the GM LS engine.
