Are Esalen hot springs open?
At this time the hot springs are only open to guests with reservations to be at Esalen. We are not accepting reservations for public night bathing.
Is Esalen open to the public?
Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Massage ReservationsPer COVID-19 safety, only guests staying at Esalen can book massages. Public Night Bathing (1:00 a.m. – 3:00 a.m.) Reservations for public night bathing are currently closed due to COVID-19.
How much is a retreat at Esalen?
A private room for a couple is $730 per person. Seven-day workshops start at $900 and cost $1,700 per person for a couple in a private room. For more information and listings of upcoming courses, see esalen.org.
Can I stay at Esalen without workshop?
Guests are welcome to stay as a personal retreat without booking a workshop. Opt for this, and you’re free to wander throughout the property’s beautiful 27 acres, book a massage, lounge in the site’s cliff-hugging soaking tubs heated by natural hot springs, and enjoy meals featuring ingredients from the onsite garden.
Is Esalen Institute clothing optional?
Is Esalen a nudist colony? The hot springs at Esalen are clothing-optional. Nudity is common in the baths and the swimming pool but is by no means mandatory.
What do you wear to Esalen?
Esalen recommends masking indoors and maintaining social distance. Though wearing masks is not mandated by Monterey County Board of Health, they do recommend that people wear masks when indoors regardless of vaccination status as extra protection against increases in COVID-19.
Does Esalen have WIFI?
Is there internet access? Esalen is located approximately 45 miles from “civilization,” and there is currently no cell coverage. Wireless internet is available in the lodge anytime other than mealtimes, when it automatically disables so we can enjoy the food and community mindfully.

Do you need a license to be a massage therapist in California?
The State of California does not license the massage profession. The California Massage Therapy Council, a private non-profit corporation, issues voluntary certifications to massage professionals that meet the requirements in the Massage Therapy Act. CAMTC Certification is voluntary.
