Why is my fuel tank switch not working?
Movement of the switch connects the proper wire to the fuel gauge to obtain a reading. This checklist is intended to diagnose only electrical faults within this circuit. It is common that the valves may be OK electrically but be contaminated, broken, or stuck, thus rendering them inoperative.
Why are there two gas tanks but no selector switch?
It has two gas tanks but no selector switch, and it seems to pull gas from both sending units at the same time, while keeping track of the total fuel amount. I tried installing a new sending unit in each tank, but that didn’t solve the issue.
Where is the fuel pump on a 1978 Jaguar XJ6?
On the 1978 XJ6 there is one fuel pump in the bottom of the trunk, on earlier versions, there used to be two fuel pumps, one for each tank. There is a switch on the dashboard, where you select which tank you want to pump from, the left tank, or the right tank.
Why does my Jaguar XJ6 not start up?
About half of the time, the reason why the Jaguar XJ6 will not start or quits running is because of the two main electrical problems that I described above. The other cause of the XJ6 not starting or quits running is the fuel system. Mostly, it is the fuel pump being killed by rust flakes from the two fuel tanks.

How does the fuel tank switchover valve work?
The changeover valve dictates from which tank fuel is drawn when the fuel pump is operated. The left and right return valves dictate to which tank unused fuel is returned to. When the left tank is selected there is no voltage applied and fuel is drawn from, and returns to, the left tank.
