How much does it cost to repair a Jaguar sill?

How much does it cost to repair a Jaguar sill?

The last customer that my mechanic did it for, it ended up costing around £1,800. To be fair the customer went and bought the sills direct from Jaguar (I think they’re £300 each), then factor in the repair costs and VAT and I can see how it ended up at this amount.

Are there any paint left on Jaguar X-type sills?

This is based on the underneath of the sill which you can still see with the plastic cover on – I’m not sure what the unseen parts are like. I last checked them maybe 2 years ago and they were fine. 2 years on and there is no paint left and they’re rusted all over.

Why are the sills on my Jaguar X-type falling off?

Spoke to my mechanic who said he had another customer with an X-type the same age. He offered to sand off the surface rust and repaint the sills, but once he got started the sills started to fall to pieces in his hands. In the end the customer opted to have new sills welded on, which cost more than the car is worth.

Can You Weld rust on a Jaguar X-type?

You can’t weld rust, so chopping back to good metal is needed. How far that is, you won’t know until you start. There have been pics on here of some really rotten examples, the rust eating away under the sills into the main body of the car, as you’re aware, this is only found when trying to repair the outer sills.

Is it OK to cut out Sill on door step?

On the left side some rust just starts to appear and its coming from that space where it joins the sill so I would prefer to cut it out too. At least the sill is mostly fine. More options… More options… More options…

Why do I have a hole in my door sill?

I need to get there to weld this little hole : It looks like it was welded in the past and rotted through the new metal. Of course it was nicely covered in underseal and looks very solid until I grinded it down 🙄 The other side looks pretty much the same. Why this, relatively new, metal rotted through I dont really know.

Are there any holes in the door step?

Thank You very much for the link. The MOT guys were not really bothered with the holes there (since they were covered in underseal) and actually any other hole in the shell and there is plenty of them now. When I was buying this car I’ve checked these points and rear jacking/radius.
