Why does my steering rack keep leaking oil?
There are plenty of automotive fluid (engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc etc) in your car and maybe it’s not your steering fluid that is leaking. Although yes, you still have a leak somewhere and you need to get that fixed.
Where are the seals on a steering rack?
The first point is at the top of the rack tower, where the steering column connects to the rack. The other two points are inside the rubber boots at the ends of the rack. If any of these points have power steering fluid coming out, then the rack seals need to be renewed. Further clarification: There should be NO fluid inside the rubber boots.

How can I keep oil out of my steering rack?
The narrow tube fitted in the gap between the rack and casing and restricted the flow enough so it would not spill out of the rack onto the floor. Eventually i got near enough about half a pint of EP90 oil into the rack and refitted the gaitor.
What to do with a greased steering rack?
I guess that if you have a greased rack from a recent replacement rack then leave well alone. Or …. if you have a rack with oil lubrication then convert to grease as most replacement racks are supplied with grease rather than oil. Pull back the boots at each end and grease the rack.
