Can a Xj be upgraded to 1 ton steering?
The basic sequence we’d follow for upgrading your XJ’s steering looks like this: Before you upgrade to 1 ton steering, it’s really important to strengthen the steering box mount with a steel spacer and a brace to keep the box frame ripping off the thin unibody.
Do you need a spacer for your XJ steering wheel?
Yes, a spacer and a brace are probably the first things you should upgrade in your steering if you’re running big tires or a locker. A steel replacement steering box spacer for your XJ, like the one from JcrOffroad, will hold up however long you want to wheel your rig.
Where to put cure on Jeep XJ steering wheel?
The Cure is only for use at the junction of the drag link and tie rod – not at the knuckles or pitman. That means you only need one. By replacing the soft rubber boot with the harder Delrin, the drag link doesn’t shift every time you turn the steering wheel.

Where is the steering rack on a Jaguar XJ?
Photograph of the modified rack bushings installed on the passenger side. Remove plug or grease fitting from the rack, and using a small screwdriver, locate the rack center. Align steering wheel to center. Align road wheels straight and fit tie rod ends. Screw tie rods in or out as necessary to maintain the wheels in the straight ahead position.
Can a steering rack be removed from the steering column?
The main problem is releasing the rack tower from the lower steering column. The pinch collar bolt MUST be completely removed before the rack can be pried away from the steering column. (green arrows photographs below). Once the pinch collar is disengaged from the rack the power steering oil feed and return pipes can be removed.
How does a new power steering rack feel?
New power steering high pressure hose, (yellow arrow photograph below) is secured after the rack is installed. Initial road testing indicates that this rack compares extremely well with my previous (polyurethane bushings installed) rack. Be forewarned, road “feel” is significantly improved.
