The only difference in the 5.4 engine is the one prior to 2004 is a 2 valve engine and is a much much better engine than the 5.4 3 valve triton they came out with in 2004. You can buy a cam phaser lock out kit for the 5.4 3 valve and lock the cam phasers and it will be just like th old 5.4.
