Is it normal to lose coolant after 28K miles?
Checked the coolant in bottle as I could see any in the bottle from the side and I heard a air hiss when opening cap. Now the heat has improved. At warm engine the coolant bottle is below the cold mark. I plan on adding some, likely a cup or two. Is a cup or two considered “normal” over 28k miles since last coolant change? What is normal tolerance?
Where is the coolant in the radiator when there is no leak?
There’s a COLD/MIN label on the tank indicating the ideal antifreeze level when the engine is cold. The coolant in the radiator should be just below the filler neck. When you are losing coolant but no leak is visible, several parts could be the guilty party.
How much coolant does a WRX Outback lose?
There is a gap around the return hose from the radiator where it enters the reservoir bottle, and under high temperatures this gap easily allows for the loss of 1 or 2 cups of coolant over 28k miles due to simple evaporation. As I said though, this is assuming the Outback and the WRX have the same setup.
Can a low coolant level cause engine failure?
Possible cause of coolant loss Coolant leak causes engine overheating resulting in engine failure and ultimately costing a hefty amount of car repairs. Using the wrong type of Coolant or driving a car with a low coolant level in the reservoir, the engine is bound to overheat.
Where does coolant leak on a 2009 Jaguar XF?
Coolant can leak from the reservoir or from the hoses, in 2009 XFs with the 4.2 liter engine, coolant leaks are most likely to occur where the hoses connect to the engine. The video above shows you where the coolant reservoir, hoses and connections on your 2009 XF Luxury are located and the steps needed to fix minor leaks.
What happens if you lose antifreeze with no apparent leak?
Losing Antifreeze With No Apparent Leak. Whenever a vehicle loses antifreeze, also known as coolant, the usual expectation leads the owner to check for evidence of leaks at all the coolant connections and components. Obvious coolant leaks can usually be found in the form of puddles left on the pavement.

How often should I add coolant to my car?
It states, “If you have to add coolant more than four times a year, have your dealer check your cooling system.” I seldom have to add any at all.
What kind of antifreeze do you put in a Chevy 1500?
I added a small amount of green antifreeze to my organization’s Chevy 1500. I later noticed a sticker that stated to add only Dexcool antifreeze and that anything else could shorten the the required time between coolant changes.
What happens to the coolant tank when it cools down?
The tank is not under pressure and vents to outside air. It’s just a plastic jug. As the engine is cooling back down, a vacuum is created in the cooling system as the coolant returns to its ambient temperature.
