The problem with many many S-types has been a failure of the park brake motor. This starts as an intermittent problem, during which time you’ll read countless forum threads suggesting everything from change the battery, change the pads, disconnect the battery, disconnect the ECU and you’ll try every one of them.

5 people found this helpful. When the PARK BRAKE FAULT light comes on the module has detected a problem and stores a trouble code. This code will need to be read with a Jag scan tool. Your problem may be due to low battery voltage, faulty park brake motor, module or possibly broken or binding parking brake cables.

Called Jaguar Assistance, as I have extended warranty. Technician said it was because battery voltage was <12.5v when switching on (before starting). He downloaded a software patch, said it won’t happen again. Fingers crossed! Stuck on the car park at work the other day with the parking break problem.
