Another member changed his fluid with a Castrol ATF fluid, can’t remember which one, and he said it made the car shift a lot smoother. Mine does this and has since I’ve owned it.

Why does my Sonato V6 not shift in reverse?
My 2006 Hyundai sonato V6 3.3L will not move in reverse gear and the check engine light has now came on shortly after, acceleration power is slow…I recently replaced the brake switch..what is the problem now? Is the transmission bad? I have fluid .

I would look at your shifter first, then the nsbu switch, then drop the pan. You might connect a scanner, or maybe even the torque app and see if the computer thinks it is going into gear. Re: Changed trans fluid and filter-now won’t move!

Changed trans fluid and filter in my ’99 NBS Sierra yesterday. It’s still on the ramps as the idle drops when I put it in gear, but the engine only revs and doesn’t engage. I removed the shifter bracket when I removed the pan……….it seemed to go back without issue.
