Why does my car not go past 2000 rpm?
Start it up and pump the fuel bulb, if it rise it’s your carbs! Pump your oil bulb with the motor running if it rise it’s your oil passage clogged which will send your motor into safe mode, hence low rpm’s not to blow your power head! And also push in the key for the primer and see if it rise! Check your timing advance linkage.
Can a spun prop run at 2000 rpm?
If it only revs to 2000 rpm’s it isnt a spun prop.Ive had a motor tuned up at a reputable shop and it ran like shit when i got it back.It got fixed but it was a waste of my time. yeah, yeah!

Even a POS jeep 3.7 will rev past 2k without blowing. Maybe? @Nevada_545 , There is no reason to exceed 2000 rpm’s in park or neutral . Are you saying you think the engine is supposed to do what it’s doing as far as rpm’s go ?

What to do if your car won’t go over 2000 rpm?
Take off the cowling and hook up the hose, get the water flowing and start the engine. Have someone slowly advance the throttle while you stand back there and LOOK. It might be obvious–sometimes it is. Try the rusted linkage idea and bulb pump–see if you can easily sort it out.
