What happens when the temperature gauge goes down?
I checked the engine coolant level and its just above the cold mark in the reservoir when engine is cold. Is there a way to check if the engine fan stays on when the temperature gauge goes down, since this only happens when i am driving and it stay down only for a few seconds. It sounds like a simple sticky thermostat.
What does intermittent mean on car temperature gauge?
The code indicates that a wire from the engine coolant temperature sensor, is shorting to ground, or open, somewhere. Of course, “intermittent” means: sometimes. The engine computer, in response, turns on the engine cooling fans, to lower the reported hot engine coolant temperature.
What can I do about my car’s temperature gauge?
top off coolant level just after starting car and fill overflow reservoir; replace rad cap then let it warm up in driveway and watch reservoir level. The fluctuations are immediate in that it gradually moves from 1/2 way mark to cold and then gradually moves back up to 1/2 way mark.
What causes a car’s temperature gauge to dip and rise?
If you are referring to the dip and rise as indicated by the temp. gauge, this is completely normal. There is a thermostat in the head which controls the coolant movement. When the water/coolant heats to a set temperature, such as 75 degrees C, a wax pellet expands the valve in the thermostat, and cooler water is passed into the head.
What do you mean by temperature gauge is fluctuating?
Temperature gauge is fluctuating, sometimes showing overh… Q: Temperature gauge is fluctuating, sometimes showing overheating.
What should I do if my temperature gauge goes down?
Is there a way to check if the engine fan stays on when the temperature gauge goes down, since this only happens when i am driving and it stay down only for a few seconds. It sounds like a simple sticky thermostat. Try replacing that for about $15+/- for starters. Post back with the results. I already had the thermostat replaced a few weeks back.
How can I tell if my light gauge is hot?
Check the gauge if the needle moves toward “Hot”, the wire from the gauge to the sending unit has an open or bad connection. If it does not move, connect a test light by grounding one end to a good known ground and the other end to positive side of the gauge (typically a pink wire).
Why does the temperature gauge fall at idle?
The difference might be that at highway speeds, the air blows hotter, but doesn’t at idle. This would mean air pocket in the coolant. if the air blows the same in both schemes, but the gauge still falls, remove the thermostat, ad drill a small hole thru it, max 1/8″.
How can I tell if my coolant temperature sensor is bad?
To diagnose the coolant temperature sensor, you need a repair manual for your car model to find what measurement values you should expect from the coolant temperature sensor. Connect an OBD2 Scanner and look for related trouble codes. Check the live data to see the temperature from the sensor.

When does the a / C fan stop blowing cold air?
Temp gauge drops to straight down, Fan blowing full and loud, A/C still Blows but Not cold and the recirculation button flashes. Kind of odd that it is the 2014’s that have started doing this. Another way for GMC to make up spend money.
Why does the RPM gauge go down when I step off the gas?
Right about the time when it starts going down I do hear the cooling fans kick in and the rpm gauge becomes hypersensitive (goes down toward 1000 when i lift my foot off the gas and when i step on the gas remains higher than it should). could you describe in detail the steps i need to follow to flush the air out of the system?
What should I do if my engine temperature gauge keeps going cold?
Clean and spray electronic cleaner in the connector at the sensor, the engine control unit connector and the cluster’s connector. If corrosion appears, there might be a problem with the connectors’ sealings, and you may have to take a look at these to make a permanent repair or replace them to avoid future problems.
